It was a busy Friday this time when we had three films releasing on the same day, which included Section 375. The film has Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha playing lawyers. The former is a known criminal lawyer, while the latter plays a tough public prosecutor. The edgy courtroom drama though had decent reviews by most of the critics but it only attracted the Multiplex crowd thus becoming a niche film for people who have an interest in the subject.
The critics called the film as a technical one and thus could only impress the educated crowd thus it failed to attract the masses thus hampering the collection. On the first day, it only scored 3.25 Crores, however, on the second day it witnessed a bad slowdown with collection dipping to 1.45 Crores. The footfall on Sunday seemed a bit better as the film could only gain around 3.75 Crores giving a low figure on the first weekend.
Also, the film had to face the competition from other films particularly the Ayushamann Khurrana’s film Dream Girl that scored well at the box office. The promotion for this film by Ajay Bahl seemed at the lower side. And the Panorama Studios production film which was also presented by T-Series failed to attract a good footfall. As per these figures, the 1st weekend box office collection 8.45 Crores. The weekdays would witness similar figures, which will make the film fall flat on the ground.
