Sanjeeda Shaikh Opens Up About a Disturbing Incident: Recounts an Unwanted Encounter

Sanjeeda Shaikh, known for her powerful portrayals on screen, recently shared a personal experience that left a lasting impact on her. While receiving accolades for her role as the courtesan Waheeda in the recently released web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, Sanjeeda also garnered praise for her candidness. During a conversation with Hauterfly, she bravely spoke about being eve-teased by another woman and the profound effect it had on her.
Recalling the incident, Sanjeeda disclosed that she was molested by a woman at a nightclub, leaving her in a state of shock. “I vaguely remember one incident where a woman passed by and touched my br**st before walking away. I was taken aback, unsure of what had just transpired. It’s not limited to men misbehaving; women are also capable of such actions,” she shared. Further emphasizing her point, Sanjeeda added, “Wrong is wrong, regardless of whether it is done by a man or a woman. If a woman has wronged you, call her out on it.
Playing the victim card is unappealing.” In Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, Sanjeeda portrays the character of Waheeda, a jealous courtesan who is also the sister of the Heeramandi ruler, Mallikajaan, played by Manisha Koirala. Waheeda embarks on a journey to wage war against her own sister to claim her rights and power. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar features an ensemble cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Richa Chadha, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman, and Taha Shah Badussha. The web series is currently available for streaming on Netflix, captivating audiences with its intricate storytelling and remarkable performances.
