Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is embarking on a new journey as he takes the reins of solo production for his upcoming epic period drama, Love & War. This highly anticipated film features a stellar cast, including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, and is set to commence production early next month. Bhansali’s move to self-produce follows the successful debut of his web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar on Netflix. Building on this momentum, he has reportedly secured a significant post-theatrical deal with the streaming platform.
According to a report from Mid-day, industry insiders indicate that Netflix has agreed to a base price of Rs. 130 crore for the streaming rights of Love & War. However, this figure is likely to rise depending on the film’s box-office performance. In addition to the streaming agreement, Bhansali has also finalized a lucrative music rights deal with Saregama, valued at approximately Rs. 35 crore. Moreover, he is currently in advanced discussions with a leading television network regarding the satellite rights, with the estimated deal worth around Rs. 50 crore. Love & War is projected to have a production budget of about Rs. 200 crore, excluding the salaries of the lead actors.
Notably, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal have chosen back-end deals with Bhansali, meaning their compensation will be linked to the film’s theatrical success. Reports suggest that Ranbir Kapoor has negotiated a significant percentage of the theatrical revenue. The release of Love & War has been rescheduled to March 2026, raising excitement among fans and industry watchers alike.
