However, at this very point, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj orders his General Tanaji (played by Ajaj Devgn) to capture this place at any hook or crook so that the Southern part of India could be saved from Mughal invasion. Soon Aurangzeb sends out commander Uday Bhan (played by Saif Ali Khan) to defend the fortress, which end up a battle between the two armies to get the control of the fortress. This battle is called the Battle of Sinhagad which later decided the fortune of Southern India.

Review

Tanhaji

The writers have certainly taken some liberty in putting the story across in the film giving the audience some entertainment value. However, one would often pose the question, was this has happened before. As you continue to watch the film, we end up getting some high-end action sequences. Yet due to loads of theory and less of practical, the first half of the movie tends to miss out the punch. You would see the makers drastically picking up in the second half and leaving the audience high with the climax.

Now, talking about the star performances, Ajay Devgn manages to showcase action with a punch while he makes you add the feeling for the character and more importantly, helps in getting all the nuances back on the point. On the other side, Saif Ali Khan has a similar sort of performance giving his best on the silver screen. He is too brilliant amidst all the chaos and even managed to put the comical timing right. The others in the star cast Sharad Kelkar and Kajol as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Tanaji’s wife were subtle in their performances.

The other elements like direction and music remain par to the requirements of making good period-drama. The music was also good and so were the other elements like a screenplay, photography, editing, writing and other elements. Together these elements have helped the makers to boost up the entertainment value to a great extent.

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior Movie Review: The Last Word

The film gives you to see all the a historical lesson learnt in your school days with unabashed entertainment. It is certainly a must-watch if period drama films attract you or you remain the fan of Ajay Devgn or Saif Ali Khan.
