“Sanjay Dutt” aka “Munna Bhai” turned 63 today: let’s take a look at his journey which wasn’t less than a film!

Sanjay Dutt made his debut with 1981’s box office super hit movie “Rocky”. He was then seen in “Vidhaata” as the leading actor. Along with film veterans Dilip Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, and Sanjeev Kumar which turned out to be the highest-grossing Hindi film of 1982. In 1983 he starred in movies like “Mein Awara hoon” and “Bekaraar”. Naam (1986) was a major commercial and critically successful movie that turned out to be the turning point in Dutt’s career. Other successful hits of Dutt throughout 80’s include “Imaandaar” (1987), “Inaam Dus Hazaar” (1987), “Jeete Hain Shaan Se” (1988), “Mardon Wali Baat” (1988), “Ilaaka” (1989), “Hum Bhi Insaan Hain” (1989), “Kanoon Apna Apna” (1989) and “Taaqatwar” (1989) .

In 1993 Mumbai suffered a series of serial bombings and Dutt was among the few who were accused of being involved in the series. In his confession, Dutt stated that he took only one “Type-56” from the producers of his movie “Sanam” for family protection purposes. Later it was also reported that the conviction of Sanjay Dutt happened because of Sanjay Dutt’s father Sunil Dutt’s political rivalry. Dutt was arrested under “TADA and Arms Act” on 19 April 1993.

But Sanjay Dutt did not lose hope and kept working hard. 1999 was a fantastic year for Dutt and the one marked as the year of his comeback. He began it by starring in the Mahesh Bhatt-directed film “Kartoos”, followed by “Khoobsurat”, “Haseena Maan Jaayegi”, and “Vaastav: The Reality”, winning his first ever Film fare Best Actor Award. 2000s movie “Mission Kashmir” won him critical acclamation and several awards and nominations.

As the decade went on, he continued to play lead roles in popular and critical successes such as “Jodi No.1” (2001) and National Award-winning film “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S”. In 2019 Dutt appeared alongside Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur in “Sadak 2”. Marking his debut in Kannada cinema Dutt played Adheera, the main antagonist in “K.G.F: Chapter 2”. Dutt’s latest release “Shamsheera” is also receiving a good response.
