Nawazuddin Siddiqui reveals colourism is still widespread in Bollywood, and how he faced this

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most talented actors in the industry. He has changed the face of Indian cinema forever. He is one of the few actors who had opted for non-conventional roles and came out like a winner. However, it was not as easy as it feat for the actor.

Talking about his struggles in an interview with a leading daily Nawazuddin recently opened up about the discrimination that he faced and how colourism is still widespread in Bollywood.

Talking about facing racism in the film industry, Nawazuddin mentioned his co-star Indira Tiwari from ‘Serious Men’ and said, “Sudhir saab has immense knowledge about cinema, and his thought process is very practical. He cast her as the heroine, and I can guarantee you that there is so much racism in our industry, I will be very happy if she is cast as the lead again. Sudhir Mishra did it, but what about the head honchos in charge? More than nepotism, we have a racism problem.”

Nawaz’s film ‘Serious Men’ directed by Sudhir Mishra recently bagged an International EMMY nomination for his performance.

The actor also added in the interview that it is high time to change the ideology of people at the top who reject others because they look a certain way.

Nawazuddin said, “I fought against it for many years, and I hope that dark-skinned actresses are made heroines; it’s very important. I’m not even talking about skin colour; there is a bias that exists in the industry which needs to end for better films to be made… I was rejected for many years only because I’m short and I look a certain way, although I can’t complain now,, there are still so many great actors who fall prey to this kind of bias.”

Meanwhile, Nawaz is presently busy working for her upcoming film Tiku Weds Sheru with Kangana Ranaut. Kangana Ranaut shared a glimpse of Nawazuddin Siddiqui as he visited her at her Bandra office.

Sharing the picture from their meet on Monday, Kangana wrote, “Guess who is in the house … My most favourite @nawazuddin._siddiqui. P.S always forget to click pictures with him thank you @silk.sp for this surprise picture… “
