Sameer Wankhede Files Defamation Suit Against Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix Over The Ba**ds of Bollywood*
Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede has filed a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court against Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.—owned by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan—global streaming platform Netflix, and others. The suit alleges that the series The Ba**ds of Bollywood* contains “false, malicious, and defamatory” depictions that have harmed his reputation, according to ANI.
This legal move follows a scene from Aryan Khan’s directorial debut that triggered widespread online discussion. In the sequence, an officer bursts into a high-profile party and confronts a man smoking a joint. Upon realizing the man is not from Bollywood, the officer dismisses him. Moments later, the officer targets another guest—not for drug use but simply for sipping a drink—and arrests him solely because of his Bollywood connections. Viewers quickly drew parallels between the scene and Aryan Khan’s 2021 arrest by the NCB during a cruise ship raid led by Wankhede.
Although Aryan was detained on charges of alleged narcotics possession and consumption, no drugs were found on him. The case later gained further attention when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) accused Wankhede of attempting to extort ₹25 crore from the Khan family in exchange for favorable treatment. Reports also suggested that ₹50 lakh was allegedly paid, though Wankhede has consistently denied these allegations.
