Salman Khan’s “Maatrubhumi” Undergoes 40-Day Reshoot, New Song in the Pipeline

Actor Salman Khan has announced a major update regarding his highly anticipated war drama, now titled “Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace.” Previously known as Battle of Galwan, the film’s new title reflects a significant shift in tone and messaging, offering a deeper thematic focus on peace and the human cost of war.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film draws inspiration from the 2020 India-China military clash in Galwan Valley. Salman Khan takes on the role of late Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu, a real-life hero from the conflict. Production for the film began in Ladakh in September 2025 and was nearing completion by December of the same year. However, the project is now undergoing significant changes, leading to an extended production timeline.

According to a report by Mid-Day, the filmmakers have scheduled a 40-day reshoot to revise key aspects of the film. Reshoots began in Mumbai in February 2026 and include the addition of new sequences to reshape the narrative. One of the most notable updates is the inclusion of a Chinese-language song, composed by Himesh Reshammiya. This track will reportedly feature Salman Khan and is in development, with shooting to commence once the song is finalised and recorded.

The film’s revised direction is said to be influenced by changing geopolitical dynamics between India and China. With a cautious easing of tensions between the two nations, the filmmakers have opted to revisit the story’s approach. Instead of focusing solely on the Galwan conflict, “Maatrubhumi” now emphasizes themes of peace, harmony, and the human cost of war. This thematic shift aligns with the new title, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, suggesting a more reflective and reconciliatory tone compared to the original concept.

With its additional scenes, revamped narrative direction, and a new musical element, “Maatrubhumi” is taking on a fresh shape, diverging from its initial war-centric vision. The film’s revised narrative seeks to strike a balance between honoring the sacrifices of the soldiers and exploring the broader implications of war on humanity.Fans of Salman Khan can expect a thought-provoking cinematic experience when “Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace” finally hits the big screen.
