Clean Slate Filmz & Netflix India End Partnership; Future of Anushka Sharma’s “Chakda Xpress” and Vijay Varma – Triptii Dimri’s “Afghaani Snow” Uncertain: Report

Since its inception in 2013, Clean Slate Filmz, led by Karnesh Sharma and Anushka Sharma, has been at the forefront of innovative storytelling. Collaborating with Netflix India, they have established themselves as pioneers, delivering captivating content such as Bulbbul, Qala, and Mai: A Mother’s Rage. Their latest project, Kohrra, continued their streak of excellence, captivating audiences with its gripping narrative. However, a recent development in their journey has marked a significant shift as Anushka has departed from the production house, leaving Karnesh at the helm. Additionally, their partnership with Netflix has come to an end, signifying a new chapter for Clean Slate Filmz.

According to a report by Peeping Moon, the reasons behind the end of the partnership between Clean Slate Filmz and Netflix remain unclear. However, speculations of creative differences and budgetary concerns have emerged as possible factors. The report also mentions that this development has left completed movies, such as Anushka Sharma’s Chakda Xpress, a biopic on cricketer Jhulan Goswami, and Vijay Varma and Triptii Dimri’s Afghaani Snow, in a state of uncertainty regarding their release. While production has been completed, the fate of these projects hangs in the balance. It is reported that Clean Slate Filmz is planning to repurchase the films from Netflix in order to explore alternative platforms for distribution.

Netflix India recently announced a diverse lineup of Indian content. However, the absence of Chakda Xpress and Afghaani Snow from the announcement has raised concerns. This has been further compounded by a broken link to the placeholder card for the Anushka Sharma film and the halted post-production for Afghaani Snow. Similar incidents have occurred in the past, such as with Abhishek Bachchan’s Bob Biswas and Abbas Mustan’s Penthouse, where Netflix withdrew support during the post-production phase. While Bob Biswas eventually found a release on Zee5, the release of Penthouse remains uncertain.
