Vicky Kaushal’s ‘The Immortal Ashwatthama’ is one of his dream projects. The film was announced in 2019, following the enormous success of his and Aditya Dhar’s previous collaboration, ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019).

But now according to rumours, Vicky Kaushal has been replaced as the lead by none other than Ranveer Singh.

Although there has been no official confirmation from the creators, it is speculated that the makers are no longer confident in Vicky’s box office pull, especially after the poor response to his previous projects.

According to an online publication, film’s director Aditya is already in talks with Ranveer for the film, which will now be sponsored by Jio Studios, which has sanctioned a massive budget for this sci-fi mythological project.

The Immortal Ashwatthama has had various casting and finance concerns throughout the years. The project was initially planned to begin production in 2020, but it was postponed owing to the coronavirus epidemic. Its production work was intended to begin last year, but it was again postponed due to budgetary concerns, as the film’s producer, Ronnie Screwvala, walked out of the film as a producer due to its massive expense. Now it has been reported that Jio Studios has taken over the responsibility of the production.

For the unversed, Ashwathama is a mythical character from the Mahabharata. He is Dronacharya’s son, who was cursed with immortality.

Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal will next be seen in Meghana Gulzar’s biopic ‘Sam Bahadur’. Based on the life of late Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the film also stars Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Manoj Bajpayee. The film is set to be released in theatres on December 1, 2023.
