Salman Khan Calls for Nationwide Ticket Price Cap Like Karnataka, Suggests Popcorn Price Limit; Says India Needs 20,000+ More Theatres

During a heartfelt group interaction at a five-star hotel in Mumbai for the promotion of his upcoming film Sikandar, Salman Khan shared his thoughts on the recent decision by the Karnataka government to impose a Rs. 200 cap on movie ticket prices. Salman Khan expressed his support for the price cap, stating, “I really want there to be a price cap on movie tickets. I also believe there should be limits on the prices of popcorn and cold drinks. Producers should receive a share from that as well.
”He lamented the state of cinema infrastructure in India, noting, “We are at least 20,000 theaters short in our country. Our films are only being released in about 6,000 screens. For instance, while shooting for Bajrangi Bhaijaan in Mandawa, Rajasthan, I found that despite the presence of 100 billionaires, there isn’t a single theater in that town. People have to drive 2.5 hours to watch a film, highlighting the shortage of cinema halls.”When asked about his definition of mass cinema, he remarked, “The distinction between mass and class cinema has faded.
Now, even in multiplexes, people are starting to whistle, similar to what happens in Gaiety-Galaxy.”Khan further added, “People are willing to pay exorbitant prices for tickets on the black market. Ideally, they should be paying Rs. 1500 or Rs. 2000 to watch a film in a multiplex. Instead, they prefer to watch it in Gaiety, even if it means buying fewer tickets.”He concluded, “Even those who frequent PVR and Inox enjoy the experience at Gaiety-Galaxy. They often watch the film again because they can’t hear it well due to the noise and whistles.”Sikandar is set to release in cinemas on March 30.
