Saiyaara vs Ye Re Ye Re Paisa 3: YRF and Dharma Lock Horns for the First Time; Limited Shows of Mohit Suri’s Film at Gaiety-Galaxy Spark Buzz

Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films (YRF) and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions have long stood as pillars of Indian cinema, sharing a deep-rooted professional bond. Karan Johar’s career began under Aditya Chopra’s mentorship, and for years, YRF handled the distribution of Dharma’s films. This close relationship has ensured that their productions never released on the same day—until now. July 18, 2025, marks a historic moment as films backed by these two giants will clash in theaters for the first time.
YRF’s Saiyaara is set to hit the screens on this date, while Dharma Productions is presenting and distributing the Marathi comedy Ye Re Ye Re Paisa 3, produced by Karan Johar alongside Adar Poonawalla and Apoorva Mehta. The simultaneous release has sparked an interesting battle at the box office. In some regions, Ye Re Ye Re Paisa 3 is putting up stiff competition against the Mohit Suri-directed Saiyaara, although the latter leads in advance bookings. In Mumbai’s Dadar area, known for its Maharashtrian audience, Saiyaara has been allocated limited shows.
Cinemas such as Plaza and Gold have completely sidelined Saiyaara, favoring Ye Re Ye Re Paisa 3 with multiple daily screenings. For instance, Plaza runs four daily shows of the Marathi film, while Gold schedules four shows of it alongside one screening of Sant Tukaram. Conversely, Chitra cinema favors Saiyaara with four shows a day, giving just one show to the Marathi film. Plans for Dadar’s Inox Nakshatra remain unavailable as of now.Initially, YRF considered a limited release for Saiyaara, but due to strong demand and exhibitor requests, showings have increased nationwide. However, the limited screenings in Mumbai’s prominent G7 theatre (popularly known as Gaiety-Galaxy) have surprised industry insiders and audiences alike.
Typically, a film like Saiyaara would secure four daily shows at Gaiety or Galaxy, but it has been restricted to just two shows at Galaxy (6:30 pm and 9:30 pm). Meanwhile, lesser-known film Nikita Roy has been allotted four shows at the larger Gaiety theatre. Additionally, the underperforming Maalik continues with two shows at Galaxy during the daytime.
