Complaint Filed Against Ranbir Kapoor for Allegedly Offending Religious Sentiments in Viral Video from Kapoor Family’s Christmas Gathering
Ranbir Kapoor’s Christmas video, which went viral online, has sparked controversy. A Mumbai resident filed a complaint at a city police station on Wednesday, alleging that the video depicts actions considered disrespectful to Hindu religious sentiments. According to a copy of the complaint circulating online, the complainant accuses Ranbir and his family members of “invoking Hindu Gods and Goddesses by sprinkling intoxicating liquor on a cake and offering it to fire while celebrating a different religious festival, with the intention of insulting Sanatan Dharma.”
Ranbir Kapoor’s Christmas video, shared online, has triggered a complaint alleging offense to Hindu religious sentiments. Sanjay Tiwari, the complainant, approached Ghatkopar police station in Mumbai through his lawyers, seeking action against the actor and his family under sections 295(A) (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 298 (offending religious feelings), 500 (defamation), and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code.
The gist of the complaint revolves around a scene in the video where Kapoor is seen pouring liquor on a cake and setting it on fire while chanting “Jai Mata Di.” Tiwari contends that in Hindu tradition, fire worship precedes prayers to other deities. He argues that Kapoor’s actions, performed during a non-Hindu celebration, deliberately used intoxicants and disrespected Hindu practices, thereby hurting his religious sensibilities.
However, it’s important to note that no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered yet. The police are likely to investigate the matter before deciding on further action. Ranbir Kapoor’s representatives haven’t publicly commented on the complaint yet.
