REVEALED: R Madhavan, not Ranveer Singh, to portray Ajit Doval in Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film

On Saturday, July 27, Jio Studios and B62 Studios announced that Aditya Dhar, the director of Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), is set to helm a new project featuring a star-studded cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal. The filmmakers released a striking black-and-white photograph showcasing the five actors alongside Aditya Dhar, which quickly generated buzz. Filming for the project commenced on July 25, and while the press release did not disclose specific details about the film, reports suggest it is a period action thriller set against the backdrop of the complex geopolitical relationship between India and Pakistan.
This sparked speculation that Ranveer Singh might portray Ajit Doval, the current National Security Advisor of India, in his earlier years. However, sources close to Bollywood Hungama have clarified that while the film will explore aspects of Ajit Doval’s life, it will not be Ranveer portraying the character. Instead, R Madhavan has been cast in this pivotal role. A source revealed, “R Madhavan will have a unique and stylish look in the film, and he’s genuinely excited about the character. As always, he is putting his heart and soul into this role. The filmmakers believe it’s going to be something special.”
The source could not confirm whether the character would be named Ajit Doval or merely inspired by him, and details regarding Ranveer Singh’s role remain under wraps. Notably, this marks the second time Aditya Dhar has depicted Ajit Doval in his films; in Uri: The Surgical Strike, Paresh Rawal’s character, Govind Bhardwaj, was based on Doval.Additionally, the producers clarified that, contrary to speculation, the film is not titled Dhurandhar. Currently, it remains untitled and is being produced by Jyoti Deshpande from Jio Studios, along with Lokesh Dhar and Aditya Dhar under their B62 Studios banner.
