Reddit Points Out Key Similarities Between Stree 2 and Stranger Things Posters

Many Bollywood films earlier have been known to closely emulate Hollywood movies, not only in storyline but also in their poster designs. Recently, an observant Reddit user highlighted striking similarities between the posters of Amar Kaushik’s upcoming horror comedy Stree 2 and the Season 2 poster of Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things.
The poster for Stree 2 mirrors the distinctive color scheme of the Stranger Things 2 poster, featuring a blue background on the lower half and an orange background on the upper half, with the film’s title prominently displayed in red. The cast is arranged in a pyramid formation, with Rajkummar Rao at the top, supported by Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi below him, while Shraddha Kapoor occupies the center of the bottom row. Some of the cast’s expressions also bear a striking resemblance to those of the Stranger Things cast on their Season 2 poster.
The Reddit community reacted with mixed opinions. Some users concurred with the original post, with one commenting, “This isn’t the first time Bollywood has copied a cover from a popular show or movie.” Another user quipped, “This is the pinnacle of ‘You can copy my homework. Just don’t make it look too obvious.’” A third user remarked, “What Bollywood does best is copying,” while another noted, “There are a couple of differences, but the similarities are undeniable.”
On the other hand, many users argued that the Stranger Things poster itself is not an original design. One commenter pointed out, “That’s marketing for you—making it look like a bigger hit to draw in viewers. But Stranger Things’ posters are also nods to 80s film posters.” Another added, “The show didn’t create that art style,” with some asserting that many posters today follow a similar aesthetic. “Honestly, one out of three movie posters looks like that now.”
“Stranger Things didn’t invent the half blue, half red, floating faces poster design; it’s likely one of the most unoriginal designs in modern cinema,” remarked one user. Another chimed in, stating, “This looks like the cover of countless ‘urban fantasy’ novels on Amazon.”
