Diya Aur Baati Hum actress Surbhi Tiwari files FIR against her husband and mother-in-law for domestic violence
Surbhi Tiwari is best known for her role as Kanchan Rathi in ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum.’ She had filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband, Praveen Kumar Sinha, and her in-laws. After three years of marriage, she plans to divorce Delhi-based businessman and pilot Praveen Kumar Sinha.
Tiwari’s case came to light in late June. Surbhi filed an FIR against her husband and in-laws on June 20, 2022, at Versova police station, under sections 498 A and 377 of the IPC for ‘violence and intimidation,’ but the police have yet to take action. On May 12, 2022, she also filed a domestic violence case in the Metropolitan Magistrates Court in Andheri.
Speaking with news portal, Surbhi told, “They have to arrest them as a case has been filed under section 498 A and 377 of the IPC. The cops are telling me that his mother is a senior citizen and cannot travel to Mumbai but I told them she has travelled by car for elections from Dwarka in Delhi to Bihar, why can’t she take a flight and come to Mumbai. I was told that the sisters too cannot come to Mumbai, kyon women hai. I told them I am also a woman and have been coming to the police station to lodge my complaint.”

Interestingly, the Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii actress went on to say, “They wanted me to be dependent on them while also exploiting my celebrity status.” She also stated that her husband is unwilling to sign divorce papers or pay alimony.

“They wanted me to join politics because my mother-in-law had failed as a politician, and the entire plan was devised months in advance,” she explained. when asked why her in-laws wanted to capitalise on her acting career
Praveen and Surbhi met through a mutual friend and married on February 10, 2019, in Mumbai.
