Rajkummar Rao Officially Cast as Sourav Ganguly in Biopic: “I’m Nervous, It’s an Honour”

In a recent interview with NDTV, Rajkummar Rao officially announced that he will portray Sourav Ganguly in the highly anticipated film. “Now that Dada has already said it, let me also make it official — yes, I am playing him in his biopic,” Rao stated. He expressed his mixed feelings, saying, “I am nervous… It’s a huge responsibility, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Rumors about the casting had circulated for some time, with other actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana also being considered. However, Ganguly seemed to endorse Rao’s selection, further solidifying his casting. In a recent conversation with PTI, Ganguly provided an update on the film’s progress, stating, “It’s going well. It will be released next December. Shooting starts in January. The pre-production, story writing, and scripting take a lot of time. Shooting doesn’t take much time — it’s about three months — and then post-production takes time.”
Rajkummar Rao’s casting comes shortly after his role in Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, a fictional sports drama centered around cricket. Currently, he is also busy promoting his upcoming film Maalik, which is set for a theatrical release on July 11. With the biopic on Ganguly on the horizon, fans are eagerly anticipating a cinematic celebration of one of cricket’s greatest legends.
