The recent FTII row, the government seems to be on the back foot. After a high voltage drama and volatile debate on the FTII chairmanship on appointing Gajendra Chauhan, the centre has finally decided to replace this man with the PK director Rajkumar Hiarni. As per the latest buzz, Hirani would be taking up the charge soon for the India’s premier Film Institute called FTII. However, Chauhan would continue as a chairman for the governing council of the institute which will be taking care of the policy matters and infrastructure. Though there is no official statement issued on this matter, but the speculation for the same seems to be ripe about the same.
After a three month long strike in the premier institute, the student protesting later was seen threatening for the hunger strike on the demand of removing Chauhan as the chairperson of the FTII. In fact, the student also filed PIL asking the intervention of the Supreme Court, which was declined by the court asking them to sort out the issue on their own. Later, this Monday, the Minister of State for IB – Mr. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was seen taking this step in favour of the student by bringing back the students back on foot.
