Afwaah trailer: A single rumour destroys the lives of three people in this political thriller starring Bhumi Pednekar and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
“One idiot tells another idiot something. That idiot tells the same thing to ten other people without thinking. And this is exactly how ‘Afwaah’ (rumours) are spread” says Bhumi Pednekar’s character in the newly released trailer of her upcoming edge of the seat political thriller ‘Afwaah’.
If the entire plot of the future film must be summarised in a single dialogue, Bhumi Pednekar’s aforementioned dialogue is an excellent choice. The two and a half minute trailer begins by introducing the film’s three main characters: Vicky Bana (Sumeet Vyas)- a budding politician and future deputy leader of the leading political party who doesn’t mind inciting violence for political gain, Nivi (Bhumi Pednekar)- a political heiress and Vicky’s fiance, and Rahab Ahmed (Nawazuddin Siddiqui)- a top advertising professional.
Nivi, his fiancee and a big politician’s daughter, flees from home because she is fed up with Vicky’s hate rants. While on the run, she is apprehended by Vicky and his men, who compel her to return, and Rahab, unaware of the repercussions, tries to free her from the harassment, which leads to them driving away in his car.
Soon after, their lives take a radical turn when a video of them fleeing goes viral on social media, spreading a cruel rumour that they were having an affair and thus fleeing. Vicky is now hellbent on locating them both and has dispatched political goons to do so.
The teaser promises an edge-of-your-seat political thriller that will also hold up a mirror to our culture, showing how political parties and social media groups promote false rumours on social media for political gain and the long-term implications of believing in such false rumours.

Sudhir Mishra, known for Chameli (2004) and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2005), wrote and directed Afwaah. Anubhav Sinha’s Benaras Media Works banner produces the film. The film’s co-producers are Dhrub Kumar Dubey and Sagar Shirgaonkar. ‘Afwaah’ will be released in theatres on May 5, 2023.
