Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment to make Alia Bhatt starrer Darlings in Tamil and Telugu
Alia Bhatt starred in Darlings was among the most watched Netflix originals last week and has received positive reviews from both reviewers and viewers. Jasmeet K Reen is the film’s director, and it is made by Alia Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions and Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. According to recent sources, Red Chillies plans to release the Jasmeet K. Reen film in Tamil and Telugu.
Red Chillies Entertainment’s producer and COO, Gaurav Verma, acknowledged the development by saying to Pinkvilla, “We had the script of Darlings with us for a while now and through the journey of making it, we decided to make it in multiple languages. The film has a certain landscape that can be adapted very well in multiple languages. The process is on as we speak.” Opening up on the idea of tweaking the film as per local sensibilities, Gaurav adds, “The story remains the same, but we will localize it. Darlings was a story set in Mumbai, but now, we will create a different world for Tamil and Telugu. We localize the characters and their reactions.”
With this, Red Chillies will become a solo banner and enter the Tamil and Telugu markets. Verma proceeded by saying, “If given the chance, that has been a road we have wanted to embark on. There will be several language versions of Jawan. We won’t consolidate or open offices in the Tamil or Telugu markets; rather, we’ll enter those markets script by script. Darlings has potential, thus we are moving forward with it.
He said to the magazine that many people sell the rights, but they want to take part in translating this story into other languages.
Darlings, meanwhile, centers on the mother-daughter team of Shefali Shah and Alia Bhatt who confront Alia’s violent husband, Vijay Varma.
