This Diwali, we had only one release – Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, so obviously the Sooraj Barjatiya film had little competition this festive season. Also, the revival of the old Prem had loads of buzz in the media for seeing him back on the silver screen after one and half decade. The film had one of the best opening with 40 crore plus figure on day one and crossing 100 crore in just three days made all the difference. In fact, this film was Sooraj Barjatiya’s only film to enter the 100 crore club, which is also one of the record in itself.
Asa per reports, the first week box office collection for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo tolls to around 165 crore, which made his 2014 film Kick behind in terms of collection. However, it failed to break the record of first week collection for Salman Khan previous release – Bajrangi Bhaijaan which managed to secure 184 crores. Interestingly, Salman has become his own competition and has earned profusely for the filmmakers and thus added a number of records as well with this film released this Diwali. Let’s see how long the film goes, when we have other movies lined up including the Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer film – Tamasha.
