He is the man behind Mardani who directed this lady Dabang Movie starring Rani Mukherji. A known director and writer in Bollywood, Pradeep Sarkar hails from Kolkata wherein he was born and brought up at this place. His love for filmmaking made him shifted to Mumbai the hub of filmmaking especially the Hindi Cinema. After a struggle he got the chance to start his career with the known movie called Parineeta. His background of Kolkata helped him to make an incredible movie, which turned out a big hit with lead roles Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Dia Mirza.

This movie proved out to be a luck changer for Pradeep Sarkar since he played a number of roles in it. Right from direction, art direction screenplay, he also wrote the script shaping it perfect with the newly introduced Vidya Balan. It was a Vinod Chopra Productions, which is being owned by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. His creativity and hard work for Parineeta was paid back in terms of good box office collection. The fact is his debut direction for the movie Parineeta in 2005 fetched him the national film award under the best direction category. His work was appreciated by critics and audience all across the country and even overseas making it a commercial successful movie at the box office.

This soon turned out a good launch pad for Pradeep Sarkar and soon he was seen with his next venture called Laaga Chunari Mein Daag produced by Yash Raj Films. The said movie was released in October 2007, which turned out an average grosser over the Box office. Apart from direction, he also wrote the story for his second movie along with managing the art direction with creativity and smartness. This followed the other movie Lafangey Parindey again from the YRF production house starring Neil Nitin Mukesh along with Deepika Padukone, which hit the theatres in May 2010. However, after this movie, he took a four-year break with no movies coming any further until he was seen again with YRF making Mardani starring Rani Mukherji.

As far as nominations and awards are concerned, he was recognized for his work at different platforms. As said above, he bagged the National Film Award and Indira Gandhi Award for best direction for his first movie Parineeta. The same movie fetched him awards from Filmfare for Best Art Direction and direction as well along with the Zee Cine Award under the most Promising Director. Though his other movies (direction and screenplay) was not appreciated unlike Parineeta but his latest release Mardaani seems have garnered positive reviews from the audience and critics and you never know he gets another award for this film as well.
