Bappi Lahiri’s son Bappa denied reports of ‘obstructive sleep apnea’ as a cause of death

Late singer-music composer Bappi Lahiri’s son Bappa Lahiri denied the reports of his father’s breathing issues. In a new interview, Bappa revealed that he thinks his father’s heart ‘just stopped’.

Known as the Disco King of Bollywood, Bappi Lahiri, breathed last on February 16. Bappa came back the next day from the US the next day for his father’s final rites.
Talking about his father’s death, Bappa told The Times of India that he had spent practically the whole month of January at the hospital. However, on February 14 he wanted to go back home. He stopped eating the next day and wasn’t feeling good. By the evening, his condition had deteriorated, and his family rushed to take him to the hospital.
Doctors’ diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea is rejected by Bappa. “No, it wasn’t a breathing issue. I think his heart just stopped. My sister, brother-in-law and mother rushed him to the hospital. The doctor had been called and he said that he needed to be taken to the hospital. They reached the hospital but he couldn’t be revived. I was on the phone all the time,” he said.

Bappa also talked about his last days and said even when he was not well he used to sing songs in the hospital, “Oh, yes. And he used to tap at the table near his bed as the songs rolled along. One day, he started singing loudly in the hospital. Mom said ‘kya kar rahe ho (what are you doing)?’”

Bappi Lahiri had a chest infection earlier this year and was admitted for it. On February 15, he was released from the hospital. His condition deteriorated, and he was rushed back to the hospital.
