Playback Sensation Heer of Batwara 1947 and Peddi Fame to Make Acting Debut in Imtiaz Ali and Mahaveer Jain’s Side Heroes
Playback singer Heer, who has recently delivered several chart-topping tracks, is all set to make her silver screen acting debut. According to industry sources, filmmakers Imtiaz Ali and Mahaveer Jain have selected the vocalist for one of the primary female leads in their upcoming friendship comedy, Side Heroes.
The casting decision follows earlier reports that the producers were seeking fresh talent to front the project. “Heer is not only an extraordinary vocalist but also a promising actor. She delivered a standout audition, and the team felt she fit the role seamlessly. Since her character in the story is also a singer, casting a real-life playback artist brings natural authenticity to the role,” an industry insider revealed, adding that official announcements are expected shortly as final details are locked.
Heer has rapidly built an impressive discography across major Pan-India and Hindi productions. She lent her vocals to A.R. Rahman’s compositions in Aamir Khan’s production Batwara 1947, singing ‘Tabassum’ alongside Sonu Nigam as well as ‘Chal Anjaane’. She also teamed up with Rahman for the hit track ‘Hellallallo’ in the Ram Charan-starrer Peddi. Her recent work includes Tanishk Bagchi’s compositions—’Roop Di Rani’ alongside Guru Randhawa in Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 and ‘Chhaap Tilak’ in Ginny Weds Sunny 2.
Side Heroes is billed as a heartland-set friendship reunion comedy infused with nostalgia. Alongside Heer, the ensemble cast features popular comedic actors Varun Sharma, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana.
The film is produced jointly by Imtiaz Ali, Mahaveer Jain, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, and Shikha K. Ahluwalia. Written by Siddarth Sen (Good Luck Jerry) and Pankaj Matta, the feature will be directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy. Notably, the production will mark a rare milestone as one of the few mainstream Hindi films to be shot entirely on location in Bihar. Side Heroes is slated for a nationwide theatrical release on Friendship Day 2027.
