Plabita Borthakur, fondly called Manu, is an Indian actress and singer. Born and brought up in the town of Jamugurihat in Assam, arts has been a part of Plabita’s life since her childhood. Her father, Probeen Borthakur was well versed in classical music and would teach the same to Plabita. Later, Plabita shifted to Mumbai and currently lives with her elder sister. Two of her sisters are in the movie business and are a major source of support for Plabita to bag projects.

Owing to her fondness and liking for music, Plabita runs a band company called ‘Manu & Chow’ (MnC). The name of the company is derived from her nickname and that of her friend, Chow. Till date, Plabita has performed live on various occasions and also conducts live jam sessions throughout the country.

Plabita Borthakur has also been a part of the advertising world, having done 18 TV commercials so far. Her ad for Paytm, in which she played a sister, went viral on social media soon after its release. Apart from this, she was also seen in a Tata Premium ad in 2015 where she enacted the roles of both a wife and a mother.

A major step up in Plabita’s career came with the Aamir Khan starrer PK, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, where she played the role of Anushka Sharma’s younger sister. She is also a part of the controversial, award winning film, Lipstick Under My Burkha, earlier called Lipstick Waale Sapne. The film, also featuring Konkona Sen Sharma and Aahana Kumra is facing problems with the CBFC which is refusing to certify the film due to its ‘adult content’ and ‘bold language’. Several Bollywood stars and directors have been campaigning against this move. The film is produced by renowned filmmaker, Prakash Jha.
