All eyes were on Anushka Sharma’s second production venture Phillauri, after her first production, NH10, got a lot of acclaim. Despite the heavy #ShashiWasThere marketing campaign, the film was off to a slow start, raking in only Rs 9.22 crore in the first two days. The film witnessed growth on Sunday, making Rs 6.03 crore. Thus in other words, the first weekend box office collection for Phillauri tolled to around to Rs 15.25 crores.
The supernatural drama is directed by debutante director Anshai Lal and stars Suraj Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh and Mehreen Pirzada, apart from Anushka. The film revolves around a manglik NRI Kanan (Suraj) who inadvertently finds himself with a ‘bride’ in the form of a spirit named Shashi (Anushka) after he is forced to marry a tree which she happened to reside in.
Now talking about the other released film called Anarkali of Arrah featuring Swara Bhaskar the film has performed very badly over the box office. The reasons are obvious the mixed reviews, and the film featured little to no promotions opened on a bleak note. The film was never expected to open to packed houses considering the fact that Anarkali of Arrah was a rather low key release.
Not surprisingly Anarkali of Arrah managed to rake in just Rs. 40 lakhs on its opening day. Featuring a rather limited release, the film which caters to a very small segment of the audience faces a tough time of posting higher collections figures. As per reports, the first weekend box office collection for Anarkali of Arrah i tolled to around to Rs 1.45 crores.
