“Perfect at doing drama”: Supreme Court raps Rajpal Yadav, grants final two weeks to deposit Rs 2 crore
The Supreme Court has given actor Rajpal Yadav a final two-week chance to pay his long-pending debts. A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant directed the actor to deposit Rs 2 crore with the court registry. The court extended his exemption from surrendering until October 5, 2026.
The judges strongly criticized the actor for failing to follow previous court orders. The bench remarked that Yadav was “perfect at doing drama” in court. They stated that his past conduct did not inspire confidence regarding his promises to pay. However, the court granted one last opportunity for him to show good intentions by depositing the money and offering a clear payment plan.
Yadav’s lawyer, PS Patwalia, asked for two weeks to submit a complete roadmap for repayment. He assured the bench that the actor would deposit Rs 2 crore to prove his good faith. The lawyer mentioned that Yadav had already spent over four months in prison for this case. He added that the actor would need financial help from friends in the film industry to gather the required funds.
The lawyer representing the complainant, M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd, stated that their main goal was recovering the unpaid dues. He noted that Yadav had repeatedly failed to keep his financial promises for many years.
This legal dispute began over a Rs 5 crore loan given to Yadav for a movie project in 2010. The actor later issued seven cheques worth Rs 1.05 crore each in 2013 to settle the debt. All seven cheques bounced. The complainant also highlighted a 2012 agreement where Yadav, his wife, and their company agreed to pay Rs 11 crore including interest.
The Supreme Court will review the case next on October 5, 2026. The judges will inspect whether Yadav has complied with these directions.
