Once again the magnum opus of Ashutosh Gowariker seems to be falling as what we have seen with his earlier film Mohanjo Daro having Hrithik Roshan in the lead role. The historical war drama film released this Friday clashing with Pati Patni Aur Woh seems to have faced a stiff competition from its opponent. Despite the ensemble star cast, good reviews and ratings, the film failed to garner a good word of mouth buzz in the media.
This certainly hampered the collection in a big way. With 4.12 cr on the first day, 5.78 cr on the Second Day and 7.78 cr on Sunday, the decline on first Monday for the weekday was drastically low as it reached 2.59 cr. With this, the total collection so far for Panipat went to around 20.27 Crores. It would be fair to say that the film is struggling with the box office because the makers have added a whopping amount to produce this war drama and getting such a meager collection is certainly an alarm that the film failed to impress the audience.
The film initially did in the Mumbai circuits but later reaching on the fourth day died down to a great extent. The experts feel that such films are of niche category and cannot be called as a massy movie for obvious reasons. It may not attract the masses to explore the history that went a couple of centuries before as we still find the audience in the B Town only go for entertainment. If things would go at this pace, then it would be fair to say that the makers have got unlucky to bank on such a content-driven film made with much efforts against a film which is a remake and has a masala topic.
