Masaba Gupta has been juggling her time between designing for her own brand, Anouk, working as a creative director for beauty companies, launching her own line of bags, and designing for her own eponymous label. Masaba Gupta is the daughter of legendary actress Neena Gupta and former West Indies cricketer Sir Vivian Richards.
The ace designer turned 33 today, Masaba is certainly making all those years of intense work count by referring to her birthday as a “working birthday.”
Here are some unknown facts about Masaba Gupta:
Masaba, who was born and raised in Mumbai, decided at the age of 8 that she wanted to play tennis. But when she was 16, she abandoned the plan as her focus shifted to dancing. She desperately wanted to join the Shiamak Davar group, but her mother had advised against it.
Masaba, then 19, applied to Lakme Fashion Week with the aid of fashion designer Wendell Rodricks.
Masaba graduated in 2009 with a diploma in apparel manufacturing and design from SNDT Women’s University.
She acknowledged in 2016 that a show intended to highlight an assortment of vibrant clothing influenced by New York’s rich culture to go with a Maybelline New York lipstick line did not work out due to a number of logistical issues. The Stylista collection, which she claims was mismanaged by the team in charge, is what she regrets most about her career.
In a 2017 exhibit of redesigned Levi’s trucker jackets, Masaba Gupta represented India.
