We now remember Guneet Monga the filmmaker and producer for making India proud after winning the 91st Academy Awards held in Los Angeles for her documentary film called Period. The film was produced by the lady and was directed by an Iranian filmmaker called Raykar Zehtabchi. However, not many would know that the lady had no support from the PMO when she wrote a letter asking their support to make a film on the bold subject of the stigma of menstruation. It is all about girls and women from the UP who follow the required hygiene during their period.
The film won Oscar award as the best documentary in the short film category without getting the required support from the PMO while the lady was on the verge of producing it. The PMO has been unprofessional in handling her request and did not even care to acknowledge the letter, which has been the protocol of these offices. Wonder how these offices work these days when these were known for running professionally by the previous governments. Now, when the film has made the country proud, such issues would hardly matter to anyone.
As the film bagged the award, the Chief Minister of the Indian state UP is seen applauding it as it deals with a story of a UP-based village talking about the bold issue. Now, the film producer wants the film to be showcased in small villages and towns of UP and other Indian states as it can help in creating awareness about mensuration hygiene. Guneet is happy about all the films she had produced earlier as it talks about the issues of her heart.
