O’Romeo Becomes Shahid Kapoor’s Second A-Rated Film After Kabir Singh; CBFC Replaces ‘Item’ with ‘Kumari’ and Cuts Violent Scenes

Following their successful collaborations on Kaminey (2009), Haider (2014), and Rangoon (2017), Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bhardwaj reunite for the fourth time with O’Romeo. The film, supported by a strong ensemble cast, a compelling trailer, and a soulful yet peppy soundtrack, has generated significant buzz ahead of its February 13 release. Bollywood Hungama exclusively reports on the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cuts for this action entertainer.

O’Romeo has been awarded an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate, marking Shahid Kapoor’s second A-rated film after Kabir Singh (2019). Despite the adult rating, the CBFC mandated several modifications. The Examining Committee replaced the word “Item” with “Kumari” in the dialogues. Additionally, four other words were substituted, though details on these changes were not disclosed.

One word was muted, and another deemed “inappropriate” was deleted. Romantic and intimate scenes remained untouched; however, some violent sequences were trimmed. A close-up of a throat-cutting scene was reduced by 20% (approximately 3 seconds). Two shots—one showing close-up bloodied head-hitting and another depicting blood squirting on a woman’s face were each cut by 2 seconds. The “woman slapping” scene was also shortened by 20%, trimming 2 seconds.

Also, anti-tobacco and anti-smoking disclaimers were added, and the duration of these disclaimers, including voice-over, was extended — adding 1 minute and 57 seconds to the film’s runtime. After implementing these changes, O’Romeo received its censor certificate on February 11. The final certified runtime is 178 minutes and 41 seconds (2 hours, 58 minutes, and 41 seconds), making it the longest film to date for both Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj.
