Oppam Movie Review : A Must Watch for Mohanlal’s Performance

oppam

Mohanlal and Priyadarshan Reunite :  When the superhit combination of Priyadarshan and Mohanlal team up, it was bound to be a houseful film. What happened with Oppam was just that. Priyadarshan and Mohanlal reunited to come up with a crime thriller that is not only a nail biting but also promises great adrenaline rush. Mohanlal creates on screen a blind protagonist who is the sole eye witness of a murder. The murder a psychopath killer is absconding but appears again and again in Jayaraman ( Mohanlal’s ) vicinity only to fool him. How Jayaraman helps police to track down the killer despite of his blindness is Oppam all about.

Mohanlal steals the show : Mohanlal impresses with his performance as a blind man who works as a lift operator in a building. He has earned for himself a good reputation despite of his blindness.  Krishnamoorthy ( played by veteran actor Nedumudi Venu ) is a judge who is followed by a criminal. Jayaraman is entrusted with the job to take care of Krishnamoorthy’s daughter, Nandini. Following this Krihsnamoorthy is murdered by the assassin in Jayaraman’s presence. Following this  Jayaraman becomes the prime suspect in the crime under circumstantial evidences. Jayaraman sets out to prove his innocence and nab the real criminal.

Oppam is a must watch for Mohanlal fans : It is splendid performance by the veteran actor in the recent times. He impeccably portrays the Blind man’s character who uses his other senses to act and understand the situation around him. His delicacy in essaying the mannerisms and expressions of such a challenged man is extremely impressive. Although the film turns out to be an average thriller it is not to be missed for the performances of Mohanlal and others like Nedumudi Venu and Baby Meenakshi. Vimala Raman returns to silver after a long break but hardly gets a commendable role to claim as a comeback. The talented actress, Anusree, plays police sub inspector in a short role.

Thriller with Twists: Oppam promises suspense and thrill with many twists. Except the sequence when Jayaraman fights with men like a man with normal vision, everything in the film is realistic. Mohanlal’s chemistry with Baby Meenakshi playing Nandini is adorable.

Intriguing Music :Though music by the four music composers is not as impactful as expected, it goes with the theme and soul of  Oppam. M G Sreekumar’s voice is magical when Mohanlal provides the lipsing. It is an out and out thriller.  Priyadarshan , the director scores brownie points once again. He emerges as a veteran who has his skills still sharp. When he unites with his old buddy, the combo creates a near magic like experience for Malayali fans.

Onam Delight : Oppam is a treat for Onam Holidays. It is a sure hit since it has Mohanlal delivering a high class performances. Comparisons are inevitable with the deceased actor Kalabhavan Mani’s Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanum. But one thing is for sure , Awards for the year are going to fly to Mohanlal and Priyadarshan for this thriller.
