Wiki – Om Puri is an acclaimed actor in the Hindi film industry. He has acted in commercial as well as art films for more than four decades. He is the recipient of National Award for Best Actor twice. He has also received Padmashree award, which is the fourth highest civilian award, for his contribution to Indian cinema. He has also been part of many cross cultural films specially Indian-British films.

Bio – Om Puri was born on 8 October 1950 in Ambala Haryana. He is a graduate from film and television institute of India and a batch mate of Naseeruddin Shah at Indian school of drama 1973. He started his career from the 1976 Marathi drama Ghashiram Kotwal. Thereon he has been part of all facets of Indian cinema ,specially making a mark in the art or parallel cinema genre. He has worked with ace actors of the industry such as Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil and Amrish Puri. Some of his most noted films include Bhavani Bhavai( 1980), Sadgati( 1981), Ardh Satya( 1982), Mirch Masala (1986)and Dharavi( 1992). His crowning glory came in the year 1982 when he received the National Award for best actor for this performance in Arohan. This was followed by 1984 released Ardh Satya which was also won him the same award.

Om Puri is reckoned as one of the senior and reputed actors in the Hindi film industry. His contribution to the British film industry is also acknowledged by the fact that he has been honored by the British film Industry with Honorary officer of the order of the British empire. In 2009, he received Filmfare LifeTime Achievement Award for his immensely successful acting career. The Punjabi film industry has been a host for the talent of the actor who has portrayed characters of various shades in these films. His contribution to regional films include Kannda film A.K. 47 in the year 1999. When the Indian television emerged in the 1980s , Om Puri being a popular actor, appeared in various serials including Kakaji Kaheen (1988), Mr. Yogi ( 1989) and later in the Ahat TV series.

 Being known for his serious acting, he has also proven himself in the genre of comedy in films like Jane Bhi Do Yaro, Chachi 420, Hera Pheri ( 2000). Skilled at each genre of films, Om Puri has been honored by the Indian government with Padmasree Award in 1999, which is the fourth highest civilian award in the country. In 2000, the versatile actor was nominated for the BAFTA Award for the best actor in the leading role.
