Johnny Lever is a popular name in B Town, who is originally known as John Prakasa Rao Janumala, who was born in Kanigiri, Prakasam district. He needs no introduction in Bollywood industry as he happens to be the known comedian. His father worked in HLL (Hindustan Level Ltd) plant in Andhra Pradesh and later his father headed to Mumbai wherein he was brought up in the known slum area called Dharavi. He speaks Telugu, Hindi and English and was among the eldest in his family. He did his schooling till seventh grade from Andhra education society English high school. He then had to work to support his family doing odd jobs like selling pens over the Mumbai streets by simply imitating the Bollywood actors and dancing on their songs and these were days he learnt his own way of doing comedy.

He also worked in HLL as labourer during his struggling days. While working in the said company, he also seen mimicking in the annual programs of the company wherein he got the name called Johnny Level, which he decided to live with. During his teens he was seen performing in a number of musical shows and stage shows, which helped in earn good. This compelled him to leave his job while doing shows for music director including Kalyanji-Anandji. He did a number of shows for the duo director including a number of world and domestic tours along with even stars like Big B. During such shows, he was spotted by Sunil Dutt who later offered him a role in his debut production movie Dard Ka Rishta.

During the eighties he was seen releasing a number of comedy and mimicry album called Hansee Ke Hungame that turned out to be among the top hits in India and even in the overseas market escalating his fame. During the same stage, he was offered a number of commercial ads over TV including Kachua Chaap Incense, which was directed by the known director Shekhar Kapoor. In the year 1986, he got the chance to perform over a charity program known as Hope 86, which was loved by audience for his unique style of comedy. This helped him bag another movie called Jalwa along with Naseeruddin Shah. He then started getting a number of movies, which include Tezaab, Khatarnak, Kishen Kanhaiya and Kasam.

During the nineties, he got a couple of movie including Baazigar, Judaai, Abba Dabba Jabba, etc. All the characters he played in these movies have turned big hit movies. He has a long list of movies wherein he played the comic roles. Some of his recent movies include Entertainment, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, Boss, etc. Besides appearing in a comic role, he also tried singing for movies like Chaalbaaz, Ravan Raaj, Achanak and Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiyaa. Talking about the awards, they have been awarded for playing different characters in movies like Raja Hindustani, Deewana Mastana, Dulhe Raja and Love Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karega for best actor in Comic role in different award functions. He is married and two kids.
