Netflix Commences Testing Free Streaming Restricted to Limited Access for Indian Subscribers

netflixUndoubtedly, there has been a significant growth in the demand for both free and premium content online. This has infused the growth of video streaming market in India is growing at a very fast pace. In order to cement its position in India, Netflix had been planning to introduce a mobile-only subscription for drawing maximum users in July, next year.

Currently, Netflix is making available the premiere episode of ‘Bard of Blood’- its original local series to even the non-subscribers.

With this, the viewers can watch the selected episodes for a limited period on desktop and Android devices for free. This strategic move of the streaming giant is aimed at stirring excitement around the series among the potential viewers and drives them towards the paid versions. It’s also worth noting that Netflix already offers a 30 days free trial period.

Talking about its last delivery, ‘Bard of Blood’ is a spy thriller co-produced by Shah Rukh Khan-owned firm Red Chillies Entertainment. The cast of the web series includes Emraan Hashmi, Vineet Kumar Singh and Sobhita Dhulipala which is based on a four-year-old espionage novel with the same name by debutant author Bilal Siddiqui.
This isn’t a new trend held by the streaming companies in India as sizzlingstar has already been offering few of its selective shows for free as its users aren’t charged to watch the first episode of any series.

The strategy appears similar to e-commerce and payments companies who allure shoppers via discounts and cash backs. Netflix anticipates India as a big market, even though it holds even less than 1.5 million subscribers, currently but, intends at adding 100 million users from India in the future.
