Most Mesmerizing Bengali Balas of Bollywood

There have been few great Bengali female characters in Bollywood films lately. All of them have been mesmerizingly beautiful and graceful. Actresses like Aishwarya Rai, Sonakshi Sinha and recently Deepika Padukone have portrayed wonderful Bengali characters on screen.

1. Sonakshi Sinha in Lootera

In what can be called her best role till date, Sonakshi Sinha gave a splendid performance portraying the charm and innocence of Pakhi Rai Choudhary in Bengal cotton Sarees and big round Bindis. Her long sleeved blouses and tied up hair do give her the quintessential Bengali look of the 1950s. She not only emoted well the role but also created an adorable character for audience to remember.

2. Aishwarya Rai in Choker Bali and Devdas:

At the peak of her career, Aishwarya Rai played complete Bengali characters in two films which were wonderfully potential roles. Choker Bali , which was more of an art film and the commercial yet artistic Devdas were the two films in she played Bali and Paro respectively. Considered two of the finest performances of the actress , these two characters are memorable in literature and Aish did full justice to them. Bali was sensuous and mysterious while Paro was innocent yet mature.

3. Yami Gautam in Vicky Donor :

Yami was the fresh discovery of the director Shoojith Sircar. She looked each inch a demure Bengali beauty in Vickey Donor marrying the Punjabi lad Vickey played by Ayushman Khurana. She played the typical Bengali girl from a family settled in Delhi. In the scene of their marriage she even donned the attire of the Bengali bride.

4. Priyanka Chopra in Gunday :

With two handsome lads wooing her , Priyanka Chopra played the cabre dancer who is not just the talk of the town but the most sought after dancer there. The film was set in the 1970s and Priyanka donned the Retro look beautifully. Her disco attire as well as the casual printed sarees made her look every inch a Bengali dancer of the 70s.

5. Divya Menon in Byomkesh Bakshi :

Divya Menon - in Byomkesh Bakshi

Divya Menon made her debut with this year’s detective thriller Byomkesh Bakshi. The malayali girl donned the look of a Bengali girl of the 1940s who is involved in political affairs with her brother. Divya’s beautiful eyes and her plain laced sarees was the perfect look.

6. Deepika Padukone in Piku:

Deepika Padukone in Piku

Stunningly beautiful Deepika Padukone played the titular role Piku Banerjee in Shoojith Sircar’s recent film and what an unforgettable one she made it with her charming look of kurtas and palazzo pants with a striking Bindi. Piku is the independent and confident career woman but with a fiery temper. Her character is the combination of independence and dependence on family.
