JW Marriott is in GST trouble after Rahul Bose’s expensive banana tweet

rahul bose

Just after Rahul Bose tweeted about the expensive bananas at the Microblogging site, it seems that the 5 Star hotel JW Marriott in Chandigarh has come under the scanner of I-T Department. A team comprising of three members have visited the hotel on the investigation order of Dept Commissioner and Excise Department calling it to be an illegal matter with the exorbitant charge implementation of GST by the said 5-star hotel by the bananas bought by the veteran actor.

As per the officials, the hotel has violated the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. The three-member team from the Excise and Taxation visited and dealt with the matter. However, there is no official statement issued by the hotel so far. The reports suggested that the team has seized all the relevant records. This brings out to an important question, is fruits are free from the taxes or the ‘fruit platter’ also fall under the same category. Meanwhile the hotel management claim to have put only 18% tax on the various food items they sell on their premises.

They also claimed that they know that the fruits are not taxable. However, the team visiting the sizzlingel claimed that it is not the question of how much percentage of GST is applied to food items but the illegal implementation of the same on the non-taxable fruits and food. Now, with the tweet coming from Bose, the department has asked to place a high-level probe to investigate and find out the fraud. Rahul Bose was charged a whopping cost of 442 INR for asking two bananas recently which he tweeted sharing the bill of the two.
