Metro In Dino Box Office Day 2: Anurag Basu’s Film Gains Momentum, Collects ₹6.33 Crore

Anurag Basu’s film Metro In Dino is gradually finding its footing at the box office. After a modest opening, the romantic drama experienced a notable increase in earnings on its first Saturday, with early estimates from Sacnilk indicating a collection of Rs 6.33 crore. Featuring a stellar cast that includes Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, and Ali Fazal, the film debuted in theaters with earnings of Rs 3.04 crore on Day 1.
Interestingly, Metro In Dino’s first-day collection marked a 300% increase compared to Basu’s 2007 hit, Life In A Metro, which opened at just Rs 80 lakh. While the latter eventually garnered over Rs 24 crore in lifetime domestic earnings, Metro In Dino appears to be on a promising trajectory, buoyed by positive word of mouth.
As of Saturday, the film’s total earnings stand at Rs 9.83 crore. It initially opened with Rs 3.5 crore on Friday but seems to be gaining momentum as the weekend progresses.
Occupancy and Audience Reception
In terms of occupancy, Metro In Dino recorded an overall 27.18% occupancy rate in Hindi on Saturday. The morning shows had a slow start with only 11.65% footfall, but attendance improved in the afternoon with 30.95%, and evening shows saw a further increase to 38.95%. The film premiered in theaters on July 4.
Critics have lauded Metro In Dino for its nuanced portrayal of love and commitment. An excerpt from News18’s review highlights, “It’s not every day that we get to see a Bollywood love story written with so much heart, maturity, intensity, intimacy, and subtlety. Metro In Dino is a masterclass on modern-day love. It’s for the lonely, for those who have won in love and then lost some. It’s as much Anurag’s film as it is Pritam’s. Tracks like Zamaana Lage, Dil Ka Kya, and Mann Ye Mera particularly stand out. Rush to the cinemas now!”
