Mere Husband Ki Biwi Review: A Quirky Love Triangle with an Important Message

The story centers around Ankur (Arjun Kapoor), still grappling with his divorce from Prabhleen (Bhumi Pednekar). He finds love again with his college crush, Antara (Rakul Preet Singh), but his past returns to complicate matters. A rivalry ignites between his ex-wife and his new love, leading to a tangled web of romance, heartbreak, and revelations.  

Script Analysis:

Director Mudassar Aziz tackles the complexities of modern relationships and marriages. The film honestly portrays the challenges of balancing career and marriage, the pressures of starting a family amidst tension, and the struggles that can lead to a breakdown. “Mere Husband Ki Biwi” effectively conveys the message of moving on and accepting that some relationships simply aren’t meant to last. However, this message is somewhat diluted by the contrived love triangle in the second half. While the film features promising supporting characters, their potential is wasted due to weak writing.  

Performances:

Arjun Kapoor delivers a vulnerable performance, effectively portraying Ankur’s emotional swings between romantic fervor and cluelessness. He shines in the more emotionally charged scenes. Rakul Preet Singh is charming and vivacious, particularly in the second half as she becomes a formidable rival to Prabhleen.

Bhumi Pednekar steals the show as Prabhleen. Fiery and captivating, she embodies the frustration and pain of a woman at her breaking point in a troubled marriage. Her performance is a highlight of the film. Harsh Gujral makes an impressive debut, injecting humor and energy into the film, especially through his comedic scenes and bromance with Arjun Kapoor’s character. While seasoned actors like Dino Morea, Shakti Kapoor, Mukesh Rishi, and Aditya Seal give their best, their characters are underdeveloped.  

Direction and Music:

Mudassar Aziz crafts an entertaining film with a relevant message, despite some shortcomings. The music is a strong point, with the rendition of “Gori Hain Kalaiya” from “Aaj Ka Arjun” being a standout. “Ikk Vaari,” “Rabba Mereya,” and “Channa Tu Bemisal” are other notable tracks.  

Final Verdict:

“Mere Husband Ki Biwi” has its flaws, but its heart is in the right place. It successfully balances entertainment with a meaningful message about relationships. The performances of Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Harsh Gujral are particularly noteworthy.
