The movie Masaan has already made waves at the known Cannes Film Festival, thanks to the rich content the film has. The film has Richa Chadda, Sanjay Mishra, Vicky Kaushal and Shewta Tripathi. The movie had an emotional plot, which challenges the heinous caste system found in India. Despite the rich content, the film failed to attract the audience as it was categorized under the genre of niche cinema, which eventually brings in limited crowd to the theatres for the film. The first weekend was slow and sluggish similar was the story during the weekdays.
As per reports, the first week box office collection for Masaan tolled to around 5 crores. Considering the big buzz film release during the eve of Eid – Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the film failed to do better over the box office. Also, the other damage was caused by the multi-million dollar film Bahubali, which kept up gearing up over the box office. Thus films like Masaan had no other option but pushed at the corner with no positive signs of survival was seen in the media. So, the film’s performance over the box office was similar as expected. However, comparing it with other release like Aisa Yeh Jahan, Masaan did well over the box office.
