Makers of ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ face legal notice from Asaram Bapu

Since the trailer was uploaded on YouTube, Manoj Bajpayee’s courtroom drama ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ has been buzzing on social media. The plot centres around a court battle between a lawyer, P.C Solanki, played by Manoj, and a Godman accused of raping a 16-year-old minor girl.

According to recent media reports, the producers of ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ may also have to go through legal struggle in real life. Although the trailer was highly received, the Sant Shri Asharamji Charitable Trust has now filed a legal notice against the film’s makers, saying that they are basing the villain in the film on Asaram.

According to their lawyers, “the film is highly objectionable and defamatory towards their client, and can tarnish his reputation and hit sentiments of his devotees and followers”, an ETimes report stated.

Confirming that they have received the legal notice, producer Asif Shaikh said, “My legal team will respond to the legal notice, and we have acquired the rights of PC Solanki and the biopic is based on him. Now, if someone is saying that the film is based on them, they can think whatever they can and we can’t stop that. Only the film will be able to tell the truth, when it comes out.”

For the unversed, Asaram is currently serving a life sentence in a Jodhpur jail for raping a minor girl. Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is helmed by debutant director Apoorv Singh Karki. Produced by Zee Studios, in collaboration with Bhanushali Studios, Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai also features Kaustav Sinha, Nikhil Pandey and Priyanka Setia in pivotal characters.
