Liger Box Office Collection: Only Vijay Deverakonda’s magic bought this no, film had no potential

Despite the fact that Liger, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday, was one of the most anticipated films, it left the audience disappointed. After its initial release, the film received unexpectedly negative feedback on social media from both fans and critics. However, box office figures reveal something else.

According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Liger earned slightly more than Rs 33 crore on its first day. However, it should be noted that this is the film’s first-day worldwide gross. “#Liger packs a solid punch as Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer collects 33.12cr gross worldwide. The mass entertainer helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Puri Jagannadh has opened up to a strong Day 1 number,” trade analyst wrote.

Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday share the screen for the first time in Liger. Deverakonda is cast as an MMA fighter in the film. Mike Tyson, the American boxer, also featured in the film for the first time.

Soon after the film’s release, several social media users took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it. While some called it a “blockbuster,” others called it a “pan-India disaster.” A large portion of the audience praised the first half of the film as ‘entertaining.’ However, the same people have also claimed that the film became less interesting after the intermission.

On Thursday, the film grossed approximately Rs. 19 crores, earning nearly Rs. 11 crores at the Indian box office, of which Rs. 14.50 crores came from Telugu states. The Hindi version of the film had only previews, which grossed approximately Rs. 1.40 crores, with a full-day release scheduled for today. The opening day numbers are, of course, career highs for Vijay, but the costs involved are also very high, and the numbers just don’t add up. The Indian theatrical rights fetched nearly Rs. 70 crores; however, with a recovery of just over Rs. 10 crores on opening day and disastrous word of mouth, investors are bound to suffer massive losses.

Liger performed best in Telugu urban centres, where Vijay Deverakonda has established a strong following. Hyderabad City grossed over Rs. 4 crores on its first day, which is a very large sum, and could have even surpassed Rs. 5 crores given the film’s early start. Nizam made nearly half of the Telugu state opening day gross, which is typically closer to 35-40%, thanks to the large crowds in Hyderabad.

Stay tuned to know how Liger perform overall at the box office.
