His recent venture into filmmaking with Saali Mohabbat, which premiered at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), has showcased his passion for storytelling beyond the realm of fashion. Reflecting on his transition, Malhotra expressed, “My dream with Stage 5 was to start a different narrative from what’s expected out of me. The most important thing is the script.”Saali Mohabbat, a middle-of-the-road thriller featuring Radhika Apte, Divyenndu, and Anurag Kashyap, marks a significant departure from his glamorous persona. Directed by Tisca Chopra, the film delves into themes of infidelity and deceit, highlighting Malhotra’s versatility as a filmmaker.

When asked about the status of the Meena Kumari biopic, Malhotra confirmed his exit from the project, stating, “I’m no longer doing the biopic. I’ll direct something else. Directing is one dream that remains unfulfilled.” Despite stepping back from this particular project, his enthusiasm for filmmaking remains strong.
