Ruma Guha Thakurta has been a known singer and actress but as per the recent update, she is no more as she passes away this fatal world at the age of 84. She has remained at the forefront in promoting music and and dance in her state. She has worked in a number of Bengali and Hindi movies and has been the founder of Calcutta Youth Choir. She had worked with ace filmmakers including Tarun Majumdar, Tapan Sinha and Satyajit Ray to name a few.
She was born in 1934 in Calcutta and married to the singer Kishore Kumar in the yea 1951. The couple has a son Amit Kumar who was born the very next year. However, after staying for seven years, the couple divorced and then she formed the group – CYC with veterans like Ray and Salil Chowdhury. The CYC has given several mass songs for differnet lagnauges and the music lover still have them lapped.
In the year 1974, the CYC bagged the first prize at the known Copenhagen Youth Festival. Once she got divorced, she then got married to Arup Guha Thakurta and the couple has a son and daughter, the latter remains a known singer. She also did a number of playback singing for the film directed by Satyajit Ray like Tin Kanya and Lukochurri to name a few. She has also given her voice in B Town films like Jwar Bhata, Afsar, Mashaal and Rag Rang to name a few. She also acted in a few films, which include the one called The Namesake.
