He first appeared in the movie called Shikari produced in the year 1946 in the very same movie wherein his brother Ashok Kumar has the lead role; however, Andolan was his first movie in 1951 wherein he had his first solo and lead role player. He was seen giving his voice many lead actors like Amitabh Bachan, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Jeetendra, Rishi Kapoor, Pran, Vinod Mehra, Sachin, Kumar Gaurav, Jackie Shroff, and even Govinda. So right from the old legend actors of 60’s and 70’s to the newer ones like Govinda in eighties, he gave his voice to countless people.
As far as his personal life is concerned, he married four times, which included the wives Ruma Guha the known Bengali Actor and Singer, Leena Chandavarkar, Yogeeta Bali and even the legendary actress of B Town called Madhubala. Some of the people in B Town even called him as the loner, while the others called him the Guru of many characters he played and the voice he gave to.
