Kartik Aaryan’s Naagzilla Likely to Miss Independence Day Release; Makers Eye New Date
Kartik Aaryan is gearing up for two promising and mass-appealing releases in 2026, one of which is the much-anticipated Naagzilla. The film, featuring Kartik as a shape-shifting nag, was announced last year and initially slated for an August 14 release to capitalize on the Independence Day weekend. However, Bollywood Hungama has learned that the makers are now planning to postpone the comic caper.
A source revealed, “Naagzilla is still being shot and is expected to wrap in a few months. The film involves extensive VFX work, meaning post-production will require significant time. Both the makers and Kartik Aaryan are clear that they do not want to rush the process. They recognize this is a special project and want to carefully nurture and perfect it before releasing it to audiences.
”The source added, “The team is currently scouting for a new release date, which will be officially announced once finalized.”Directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba of Fukrey fame, Naagzilla is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions alongside Mahaveer Jain Films. This marks Kartik Aaryan’s first collaboration with Mahaveer Jain and his second with Karan Johar after Tu Meri Main Tera.
Industry insiders are closely watching which date the makers will lock in. A trade expert commented, “Kartik’s other 2026 film, an untitled musical directed by Anurag Basu and co-starring Sreeleela, also remains without a confirmed release date. Both films are significant for Kartik’s 2026 lineup, and there’s strong anticipation around their launch plans.
Hopefully, we’ll hear official announcements soon.”The expert further noted, “Naagzilla was the only film to block the lucrative August 14 Independence Day slot.
