Kargil Vijay Diwas: Sidharth Malhotra to Janhvi Kapoor who paid tribute to our Jawans with ‘these’ amazing films

Every year on July 26th, India commemorates the momentous victory of Indian soldiers over Pakistani forces in Ladakh in 1999 by observing Kargil Vijay Diwas or Kargil Victory Day. The Kargil War has been over for 23 years as of this year’s Kargil Vijay Diwas. On this day, about 30,000 Indian soldiers engaged in combat with Pakistani forces to secure India’s triumph.

The day is also set aside to honor the Indian Army heroes who gave their lives in valour while defending their country. Here are some Bollywood films that focus on the Kargil War in honour of the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

1) LOC Kargil

The entire 1999 war, from its start to its resolution, is the subject of the multi-starrer movie LOC Kargil. Along with presenting the actual truth of the Kargil War, it effectively portrays the bravery and valour of the Indian army. Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Raveena Tandon, Ashutosh Rana, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Esha Deol, and Mahima Chaudhry are among the actors who appear in the J.P. Dutta-directed movie.

2) Dhoop 

Captain Anuj Nayyar, MVC, who oversaw Indian operations during the Kargil War, is profiled in the book Dhoop. Dhoop, which is directed by Ashwini Chaudhary, also features Om Puri, Revathy, Sanjay Suri, and Gul Panag.

3) Lakshya

The story of a young child who enlists in the Army and prepares for the Kargil Vijay Diwas is the focus of the Hrithik Roshan film Lakshya. Preity Zinta and Hrithik Roshan play key roles in the Farhan Akhtar-directed film, which also has Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Boman Irani, and Om Puri in significant supporting roles.

 4) Shershaah

Shershaah shared the little-known tale of Captain Vikram Batra, who gave his life in 1999 after the Indian Army retook point 4875 in Kargil from Pakistani forces. The movie, which was directed by Vishnuvardhan, also provides a glimpse into the captain’s private life and his relationship with Dimple Cheema. The lead actors are Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani.

5) Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

The Kargil Girl centres on the life of Gunjan Saxena, an Indian Air Force pilot who participated in the Kargil War and was the nation’s first female combat pilot. The movie, which is directed by Sharan Sharma, features key roles for Janhvi Kapoor, Angad Bedi, and Pankaj Tripathi.
