“No business can survive without black money”: wife of Amit Gupta of Agrifields in AFP court transcripts.

Agrifields CEO, Amit Gupta, Faces Multi-Pronged Investigation for Alleged Bribery and Financial Irregularities

Dubai, UAE: Amit Gupta, CEO of Agrifields DMCC and former head of rock-phosphate company Getax, is entangled in a complex web of legal investigations spanning continents. Accusations of bribery, money laundering, and potential tax evasion paint a concerning picture of Gupta’s financial dealings.

Bribery Case in Nauru:

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) launched a criminal case against Gupta in February 2020, alleging he bribed foreign officials in the Republic of Nauru through Getax. The Sydney Morning Herald, citing US documents, reported that Gupta is the “target of a criminal investigation” suspected of conspiring to bribe officials, engage in money laundering, and commit other offenses.

Leaked Phone Calls Raise Red Flags:

Intercepted phone conversations between Gupta’s wife and father, revealed in court documents, have fueled further suspicion. In one call, Gupta’s wife reportedly admitted, “No business can survive without black money,” and claimed Gupta masterminds their financial decisions, keeping them secret even from staff. These recordings, obtained through eight “telephone interception warrants” issued by the AFP between 2012 and 2013, have added weight to the ongoing investigation.

India Joins the Inquiry:

An ongoing Income Tax investigation in India has opened another front in this multifaceted case. The recent filing of an FIR (First Information Report) and the revelation of the intercepted transcripts shed light on the nature of Gupta’s financial activities, further complicating the already intricate narrative. This collaborative effort by global authorities underscores their commitment to holding individuals accountable for suspected financial misconduct.
