Kajol Shines at Maa Trailer Launch; Ajay Devgn Wins Hearts with Mothers’ Names in Credits

Kajol expressed her excitement, stating, “This is the first time a mythological horror has been attempted. I am very happy to be a part of it and to have all this backing behind me.”
Unique Middle Names Tribute
One notable aspect that caught the attention of attendees was the inclusion of maternal names in the middle of everyone’s names listed in the credits. When Ajay Devgn was asked about this, he explained, “We are making a film named Maa. Usually, we mention the names of fathers in the middle. This time, we felt that mothers should get their due respect.” This sentiment was met with applause from the crowd.
Casting Insights
When the host inquired about the casting process with the question, “Kahan se shuruaat hui?” (Where did it all begin?), Kajol humorously replied, “Ghar se shuru hui! Who could he imagine in a horror role besides me?” Ajay Devgn chimed in, saying, “Koi bhi husband apni wife ko hi cast karega!” (Any husband would cast his own wife!)
On a more serious note, Ajay elaborated, “When Saiwyn Quadras presented this idea, I realized that while many horror films and horror comedies are being made, no one has ventured into mytho horror. Our mythology is rich with such stories, yet we don’t make good use of it. We thought it was a great idea, and we decided to pursue it. The character of the mother is so strong—who else could have been envisioned for this role but her?” he said, pointing at Kajol.
Acknowledging Collaboration
Maa is also produced by Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios. Ajay praised her, saying, “It’s always been fabulous. She has always been a great friend and supports good cinema. Whatever we want to make, she is always there. So, thank you to her!” Notably, Jio Studios and Devgn Films are pioneers of the mythological horror genre, with their previous collaboration, Shaitaan (2024), also fitting into this unique category.
