Kaafir first impression starring Dia Mirza and Mohit Raina’s seems promising

Kaafir

The Dia Mirza debut series, Kaafir is already rolling in the OTT world making it quite a promising one for the viewers to catch up with. The character of Kainaaz is not only breathtaking, but has perfectly managed to make her presence felt in the smallest time zone gracing the screen in the first couple of episodes. Kaafir is currently streaming on ZEE5.

Kaafir is amongst one of the narratives screened around the India-Pakistan story that makes sense as the two share quite a delicate past. However, most of such stories often do not fall in the manner of weaving its way in the best fashion. On the contrary, Kaafir not at all falls in that category.

This Sonam Nair-directed web series has been backed by a credible screenplay drafted by Bhavini Iyer. Mohit Raina plays Vedant, a lawyer-turned-journalist who one fine day chances to have a look at the footage of a little girl called Sehar. He is supposed to develop a ‘human-interest’ story with an emotional angle for which Vedant wishes to pursue the child and find out what her story is. It is then that he discovers that Sehar’s mother Kainaaz has been kept in prison for seven years believing to be a Pakistani militant. However, nothing is actually as it seems. Later Vedant finds out the truth through a series of interviews he conducts with Dia Mirza’s as Kainaaz.

The pilot of the ZEE5 show has successfully created the narrative instinct of Vedant and his background, compassing his job switch and the death of his dear brother who was a decorated army man. Mohit Raina, who was last seen in the blockbuster military drama Uri: The Surgical Strike, has portrayed a pretty grounded and even-toned performance in the series.

Dia Mirza, on the other hand, is not only breathtaking as Kainaaz in her looks, but has also perfectly managed to make her presence felt with just a few couple of episodes.

A few scenes have been cut, here and there for making the episodes crisper but, so far the series seems to be going good.

Kaafir is currently streaming on ZEE5.
